Hi, my name is Zainab Balogun
I am a HCI Researcher & Interaction Designer
I am a PhD Candidate studying Human-Centered Computing at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). My research sits at the intersection of Health Technology, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW). I am also interested in research methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative approaches. Particularly, I enjoy exploring and innovating on data analysis approaches in order to extract unique and pertinent insights that reflect real user needs.
With these insights gained through a rigorous research process, I inform the design of technology solutions that support individuals to engage purposefully with their health and well-being. My research also focuses on digital health disparities (i.e., individuals who experience systemic obstacles to technology use), including the privacy and security implications of health apps for managing personal health information (PHI).
Before pursuing my PhD, I worked as a software engineer, collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to deliver technology solutions for startups, public, and multinational organizations (read more here).
My aim as a HCI researcher and designer is to drive healthcare technology innovation through rigorous research to create the best technology outcomes that solve wicked problems. You can read more about my user studies project on the Portfolio page and explore my design projects on the Design & Prototyping page.
